Před natáčením Evity se Madonna snažila přesvědčit o svém uměleckém talentu a nadání a vylepšit si svou pošramocenou pověst. Po příjemném albu Bedtime Stories šla ve své elegantní a romantické image ještě dál a vydala netradiční sbírku svých osobně nejoblíbenějších balad doplněných o několik nových kousků. Deska zahrnuje i několik soundtrackových singlů, které dosud nenašly místo na žádném Madonnině předchozím albu.

Pilotním singlem měla být coververze známého hitu Marvina Gaye I Want You, spolupráce se skupinou Massive Attack, kterou produkoval Nellee Hooper. Madonna sice získala autorská práva, ale problémy nastaly při remixování skladby, proto jediné dokončené verze jsou jen výše uvedené variace albových verzí dostupné pouze na in-house MC. Taneční remixy Juniora Vasqueze nebyly dokončeny a nikdy oficiálně vydány. Jediné, co po singlu zůstalo je nádherný videoklip a katalogové číslo amerického promo singlu PRO-CD-7883-R.

Další písničky pro toto album - You'll See a One More Chance - napsala Madonna ve spolupráci s Davidem Fosterem. Z nich však zůstala jedna nevydána, je to I Can't Forget.

Na obale alba byla použita fotografie Maria Testina z reklamní kampaně na modely značky Versace.
