Druhým albem roku 1990 byl první výběr největších hitů bezkonkurenční královny světového popu Madonny, známý jako The Immaculate Collection. Možná nevíte, že jeho původní název byl Ultra Madonna, pro něž byl vytvořen i obal s typickým logem, i když v trochu odlišné podobě. O změnu názvu se zasadila vydavatelská společnost, a to kvůli v té době známé zpěvačce jménem Ultra Naté. Aby nedocházelo k záměně.

Neposkvrněná sbírka je Madonniným největším komerčním úspěchem. Ve Velké Británii se prodalo 3,6 milionů kopií, což je nejlepší výsledek pro zpěvačku v zemi. The Immaculate Collestion je tam pak celkem desátým nejprodávanějším albem. V U.S.A. získala deska desetinásobonou platinu za 10 milionů vyexpedovaných nosičů.

Kromě novinkových skladeb Justify My Love a Rescue Me byly na albu použity tzv. Q-Sound Mixy, které jsou u většiny skladeb jen remasterovanými edity původních albových verzí. Výjimkou je například Like A Prayer, která se podobá spíše 12" Dance Mixu, známému z komerčního singlu, nebo remix Express Yourself, který na komerčních singlech vystupuje pod názvem Shep's 'Spressin' Himself Remix, jenž je vlastně opět jen editovanou verzí Non-Stop Express Mixu. Jedinou nevýhodou snad je, že jsou některé písničky z kapacitních důvodů razantně zkráceny.

Jako nové komerční singly byly vydány nejen obě novinkové skladby, ale v Evropě i dva starší hity Holiday a Crazy For You. Plánována byla i reedice Into The Groove, která přestože byla už nabízena v obchodech k předobjednání, byla na poslední chvíli odvolána. Album se prodávalo už tak velmi dobře a další propagace prostě již nebyla nutná.

Kromě řadového alba na CD, kazetách a vinylech vydali Sire Records limitovaný The Royal Box, který obsahuje CD nebo kazetu, videokazetu, plakát s fotkou z MTV's Video Music Awards 1990 a pohlednicemi. CD není baleno do plastu, ale do plátěného přebalu a i jeho potisk se liší od běžného vydání. Cena této luxusní krabičky se pohybuje nad tisícem korun.

Obal nafotil Herb Ritts. Roku 2002 ve věku padesáti let zemřel.
